Yacht Logic was born from real frustration on real boats. Kevin Kates has spent over 25 years as a career captain — running yachts and mega yachts up to 145 feet, managing crews, overseeing complex vessel operations, and building marine businesses from the ground up. He ran charter operations, competed in fishing tournaments, and served as a corporate captain — experiencing every facet of the professional marine industry firsthand.
Along the way, Kevin achieved what most in the industry only dream about: becoming an owner and partner in a full mothership operation. The fleet consisted of a 132′ Trident motor yacht as the mothership, a 61′ Jamie Chadwick sportfish as the primary fishing vessel, and a 36′ Invincible tender towed behind — a serious offshore operation that demanded serious logistics, crew management, and operational discipline.
Living that reality — from deckhand to captain to owner — gave Kevin a perspective on the marine industry that no software developer sitting in an office could replicate. When he looked for tools to manage his crews and his service teams, everything on the market was either too complicated, too expensive, or clearly built by people who had never actually worked on a boat.
So in 2007, he built his own. Not because he wanted to be a software developer, but because the industry deserved better tools. What started as a basic system to track time and parts for his own service business evolved into a powerful operational platform. Through years of continuous improvement — informed by the daily realities of running marine businesses — it became the foundation of what is now Yacht Logic Pro.
As technology advanced, the platform was rebuilt from the ground up with mobile-first design and practical Artificial Intelligence. Today, Yacht Logic is a complete ecosystem: Yacht Logic Connect for everyday boaters, Yacht Logic Pro for marine service businesses, the Yacht Logic App for mega yacht crews, and Yacht Logic Marine Solutions for businesses that need expert consulting and digital services.
